Nearing the end of their internship experiences, Vanessa Dang and Amelia Poling share their experiences working with the CommerceNext Team as marketing interns for the Summer of 2021.
VANESSA’S INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
With a background in entertainment marketing while pursuing an undergraduate degree in Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, I knew I had wanted to dip my toes into the marketing world for a long time. Thus, when looking for an internship this summer, I had focused on three key points: mentorship, independence and flexibility. Lucky for me, CommerceNext was able to provide all of the above and more.
As a start-up company focused on marketing within retail and ecommerce, it was an avenue that I had not yet explored, but wanted to try. Nevertheless, it was the people that I had the pleasure of working that helped shape my experience with the company. CommerceNext’s strong mentorship program allowed me the flexibility to manage a multitude of tasks to better understand what I liked. With opportunities to speak one-on-one with company leaders, I received the option to explore avenues I wanted to pursue and to customize my internship to tend to my interests. At the send of a message, help was always readily available to answer my many curious questions. It truly was a bright experience from start to end.
The company embodies an open environment that allows room for input and creativity. Tasked with real-life experiences, the internship also emphasizes education as I gained insight into the retail and ecommerce industry from inside-out. Through the guidance of CommerceNext’s marketing team, I developed and mastered skills such as professional writing, content curation, project management and video editing. From this, I am grateful to be walking away from my experience with a full resume to bring to my next job.
At the end of my internship, I am very happy to say that CommerceNext has been a great addition to my professional career and would thoroughly recommend the position to all interested candidates. Thank you to the CommerceNext team for a pleasurable experience working with you all!
AMELIA’S EXPERIENCE
I was excited to begin my internship at CommerceNext after finishing my junior year at Boston University. As a major in Public Relations, I had not had experience in marketing, but I knew it was something I wanted to try. The entire marketing team was extremely receptive to helping me not only learn how to complete my marketing tasks, but also understand the CommerceNext marketing strategy.
This internship would not have been the same without the support and encouragement from the CommerceNext team I received for the past four months. I was welcomed to ask questions and get help when I needed it. Additionally, I had the opportunity to work with all three co-founders closely, because they made themselves accessible to me.
I was rapidly given trust and responsibility from the marketing team to create social posts, emails and blogs. With a small, close-knit team like the one at CommerceNext, it was clear that all the work I was doing made an impact and helped the company grow. Creativity was encouraged and I was able to voice my own ideas that I had for the marketing channels.
As I finish off my last week at CommerceNext, I am grateful for everyone who has supported me during this time and would like to thank the team for the opportunity to work with them this summer. CommerceNext is a great company to work for and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the position.
